Coronavirus In India LIVE UPDATES 1. With the Central government extending nationwide lockdown till May 17 and issuing fresh guidelines to regulate different activities during the period, the situation seems to have turned grim as the country reported 2,293 new cases and the death toll has increased by 71 in the last 24 hours.

The total number of cases in India has crossed the 37,336-mark with 1,218 deaths reported so far. Around 9,950 people have recovered until now.

All metro cities which are economically crucial including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Ahmedabad, all marked red zones, will remain under strict lockdown.


PM Modi today afternoon held a meeting with Union Ministers Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman over 2nd economic stimulus package. He also met officials of economic ministries to firm up the second stimulus package for sectors impacted by lockdown to curb spread of coronavirus, reports said. To ensure people at the bottom of the pyramid do not face harships during lockdown, the government in late March had announced a Rs 1.7 lakh crore stimulus package comprising free foodgrains and cooking gas to poor and cash doles to poor women and elderly

At least 19 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Maharashtra's Nashik district on Saturday, taking the tally to 316. Of the 19 new cases, seven were from Malegaon and 12 from Nashik, a release from the district administration stated.

With the fresh cases, the COVID-19 count in the district has gone up to 316, which includes 281 patients in Malegaon, 16 in Nashik city and 17 from other parts of the district, the statement read.
